Regular movement improves a child’s concentration. Providing young children with frequent brain breaks helps them to re-energize and refocus on a task.

The more children are exposed to activities that strengthen their concentration, and frequent movement breaks to increase their focus, the more their span increases over time.

4. Increased Brain Development

Children who are moving are sending oxygen to the brain. Oxygen is crucial for correct brain functioning, and thus the increased circulation leads to increased brain activity and skill to find out effectively.

5. General Health

Tight-Rope Walkers

Pretend to be tight rope walkers and practice the skill of balance and concentration.

All you would like is maybe a piece of string laid on the ground or elevated slightly and tied to the legs of chairs.

Walk along the string, placing one foot carefully ahead of the opposite without losing your balance and “falling off the tightrope”, or “falling into a river of crocodiles”.

Or get your child to steer along a curb or other narrow, slightly raised platform.

Young children enjoy symbolic play, and you’ll even dress up for this one.

Scavenger Hunt

The simple act of being outside within the fresh air and running around in nature may be a necessary movement activity.

Why not try something fun, sort of a nature scavenger hunt?

On a sheet of paper or cardboard, draw or paste pictures of objects found in nature and race around the garden or park trying to find these things.

Or, make a card with pictures of insects – like within the example below – and walk around the garden together with your child finding as many of those creatures as you’ll.

Try and take an image of them once you find them.

Ladder Jumping

A ladder may be a useful gizmo that will be utilized in a spread of the way. A structure ladder (that are often removed), ladder, or regular household ladder can all be used.
